Re: WNBC/New Britain

WNBC, New Briitain, was originally on 1380. NARBA bumped it up to 1410,
where it remains in its current incarnation (or regeneration) as WPOP.

The station began ops on or about 7/15/1935 as WMFE or WMFI (still can't
keep 'em straight - one was WNBC, the other WELI, New Haven). It was located
at three different addresses in New Britain before moving to its former
remote studio location at 54 Pratt Street, Hartford around 1942. The call
was changed to WHTD sometime before the cicrus fire, 7/6/44.

Ch. 30 started in 1953 as WKNB. NBC purchased it during the ill-fated
network UHF experiment (CBS bought neighboring Ch. 18 in Hartford) and the
station became WNBC-TV. The 840 frequency was for years WRYM, an
ethnic-oriented daytime station, with studios in Newington. I don't know
what it is now. WKNB radio was on 910, which became WRCH, then WRCQ/91Q in
the 70's.
