Today's LTAR
Today's LTAR discussed the demise of classical
music on Miami's WTMI. You know I don't agree with any statement that
WCRB fulfills that niche well or even adequately (note that it has
fallen out of the Top 10 12-and-over, and even lower when you factor
in WBUR,as the media writers at the Globe and Herald have done recently). Since WCRB is not a "newsmaker" station, I won't plow
over that ground now since nothing has changed in months (if not
YEARS at the South Street Snoozer). But reference was made to the
demise of commercial classical stations in other markets, including
Chicago. Well, WNIB is gone, but WFMT remains. Chicago once had two
commercial classical outlets and now has one. But it is a high-quality
outlet...and Chicagoans are better off with ONE excellent station
of that type rather than two mediocre ones.
