I believe it is against NFL broadcast regulations for another stationin the
market to pick up the network radio feed. This is done in order to protect
the flagship. For example, when WEEI had the Giants rights a few years back,
they couldn't air the Giants-Patriots game, since WBZ had market
exclusivity.
This rule exists in most sports, IIRC, though I know of one exception. When
the Yankees made it to the World Series in the past, WFAN was allowed to air
the ESPN Radio feed, despite presence of WABC, the Yankees' flagship. I am
guessing that MSG Radio may have given WFAN a waiver of some sort, though I
don't know the particulars.
