In another twist of fate, Robertson sold his

As part of Pat Robertson's deal with Rupert Murdoch,
Fox Family had to keep showing the 700 Club. Then,
when Fox sold it to ABC/Disney (it is now known as
ABC Family), it also was stipulated that Pat's show,
"700 Club" would stay.

Ironically enough, Disney is probably the last type
of owner to run religious programming. Rumor has it
that Uncle Walt was an atheist. And to this day...
well, check out Disney Channel's lineup come December.
You'll see lots of "Santa"-themed specials but nothing
religious (birth of Jesus) at all (yes, I know
Santa is originally a Christian saint, but Disney's
Santa specials steer to the secular side of Kris
Kringle).

Am not all that religious myself...but am just
noticing it "odd" that the 700 Club would air on
a network whose owners aren't exactly all that
spiritually inclined.

(And the rumors of Disney's financial troubles--
well, what do you expect-- they are a 'Mickey
Mouse' organization, aren't they :) Couldn't
resist. )

As for Joan Rivers: yes, WXNE-TV would not show it
but you could hear the audio version of it on
WMRE (1510). I went to the WMRE farewell party at
the now-defunct Breakfast Club (corner of Boylston St.
and Brookline Ave.) and, at 11 pm, they were playing
WMRE in the background. Joan was heard to mention
at that time that it Boston you could only "hear"
the show on the radio, and she mentioned the name
of the WMRE PD (Jack Roberts?)
