WXNE-TV/Channel 25 (was Re: Scrambled TV)

    Channel 25 did not go subscription.  Channel 25
(then WXNE-TV) was originally a Construction Permit as
WREP-TV.  The CP was sold to CBN in 1973 but did not
hit the air until 10/12/77.  Most equipment was
surplused from a Florida UHF station that went
"belly-up".  From "Day One", WXNE was the conventional
Independent station.  Only a small amount of WXNE-TV's
schedule consisted of strictly religious programming. 
Originally, Sundays were strictly teaching and
preaching from CBN.  But slowly but surely, Sundays
became more secular with Westerns and whatnot.  If you
looked at Channel 25 in 1980, you would never know
that it was owned by a religious organization.  The
movie "Network" was shown on their Prime Movie without
any "bleeps".  All in all, WXNE was a rather good Indy
with some good product and the BEST UHF signal in
town!
     Ironically, Pat Robertson sold WXNE to Rupert
Murdoch who was putting the FOX Network together.  FOX
programming was not what CBN would normally show.  In
fact, Joan Rivers' Late Show would not be shown on
Channel 25 until the station passed hands in early
1987.  In another twist of fate, Robertson sold his
"Family Channel" to..... you guessed it, Rupert
Murdoch.  Doesn't it all seem ODD (to say the least)? 
Oh, well.
