Dave,

I still manage to catch BBC radio here in NYC over the shortwave. I use
an old Zenith Transoceanic Royal 7000 with its whip antenna. Nothing
fancy...but a good "daily driver". Granted it's not quite the same
reception as before, but it's fairly listenable...for what shortwave from
half-way across the world is worth.... :-)

Maybe if you use a long-wire antenna clipped to your antenna it would
help? You could make one yourself with a long roll of copper wire...or
buy one of those 8.99$ long-wire antennas (the one that comes wrapped up
in a little spool) from Radio Shack. I use one of those when I use my
Baygen Freeplay (the original model) and it imporves things greatly on
that radio since it doesn't have a fine tuning control.
