I remember back just before the Gulf War, around summer of 1990, there
were several AM stations that carried the audio of CNN Headline News off the
bird. Three of those were the former WTTT (now WPNI) here in Amherst, the
station at 930 AM in New Britain, CT, and the station also at 930 AM (I
think) somewhere near Rochester, NH. WTTT's ratings spiked all during the
Gulf War as people listened at their places of employment to "keep up". I
remember management at WTTT had been sold on it under the premise that the
people at CNN would keep in mind that they were also on radio stations and
to try and write the news copy without referring too much to video. That
was easier said than done, given the reason why people watch news on
television in the first place - to see the video that goes along with the
news...
