News From Philly--Could It Impact Boston?

Although this is not a Boston/New England story, I'll share it with you
for reasons that will become obvious as you read the full post:

According to FMQB.com's scrolling "Headlines" (at this time, 1:30 P.M.
Friday September 7th, details are yet to be posted), Philadelphia's WYSP-FM
will not replace departing program director Neal Mirsky, who's headed
for Kansas City.

The reason I bring this to your attention is that WYSP, which has carried
Howard Stern for years (like Boston's WBCN) and is otherwise a rock station,
now also carries Opie & Anthony (again like WBCN).

What this may mean is that WYSP could be following in the footsteps of
New York's WNEW-FM and become round-the-clock extreme talk. And, CBS/Westwood
One/Infinity has a syndicated lineup of extreme-talk hosts that WYSP
could "plug-into".

Were WYSP to take the full lineup of CBS/Infinity/Westwood One shock
jocks, then there would be nothing local to program. A program director
would not be necessary.

This may be a sign that Philadelphia's WYSP is about to go fulltime extreme
talk. And if they do so soon, several other Infinity stations that run
Stern and Opie & Anthony, like WBCN, will probably follow suit in short
order.

So savor any music you hear on 104.1 here in Boston. The music might
not be there for much longer.
