Needham.

I think a good tube-type sortwave radio with old-fashioned analog tuning
will usually beat a digital portable. That's because the digital tuning
circuitry often contributes synthesizer noise that isn't present in an
analog-tuned set, and because tube stages usually have better RF dynamic
range than transistorized stages. 

But of course, YMMV.
