WCLV-FM Cleveland Makes Frequency Switch and Courageously Accepts Criticism

Even though WCLV-FM 104.9 (formerly 95.5) is many miles away in
Cleveland, some of you may be aware that they announced the unusual move
of trading a full-power signal for a "Class A" last year to keep classical alive
in the market. (This happened in Portland, ME, where the predecessor of
today's 106.3 in Scarborough switched from 97.9 to 106.3.)
For a long time, WCLV's website (www.wclv.com) maintained a Forum...

[a sidebar: Extremely dumbed-down pseudo-classical WCRB did so at one time
too and one day I posted a missive called "Contented Clevelanders"...
wherein I noted that they received only a few postings a day, mostly
positive, while WCRB.com was barraged with complaints about its programming
not only by me I might add]

...but just before the frequency switch, WCLV's Forum disappeared, I surmised
forever. Now WCLV is on the weaker frequency and the Forum is back, and
the postings are almost unrelievedly negative if not HOSTILE. One of the
underlying reasons for the switch was the promise of in-band digital radio...
but as at least one post averred...this is a pipe dream for the future.

The Forum also deals with the issue of classical music on public FM's...
such stations in northeast Ohio may have to rethink their options if WCLV-FM 104.9
is a disaster.
