1954.   That was the original WBZ television tower.  I believe the second 
tower was originally intended as an auxiliary radio tower.  I think it may 
also have been used temporarily for WBZ-TV after the fall of the other 
tower.

I notice that the existing tower is now supported by guy-wires, even 
though it is built as a self-supporting tower.  As Scott once showed me, 
one of the wires is anchored to a remaining piece of the base of the old 
TV tower.
