WMTW Broadcast Group dumps nostalgia in Portland

870 and 106.7 will go news/talk on Monday with studios at WMTW-TV's Monument
Square operation; nostalgia will continue on 1470 in Lewiston. The stations
will leverage their relationship with Channel 8 and the Blethen Maine
Newspapers. The calls? WMTW, of course! Neila Smith and George Campbell will
co-host the morning show "The Talk of The Town" with Chris Lane doing news. A
midday show called "Business and a Byte" will focus on business and tech issues.
Program Director Ken Main is promising a locally-produced, community-oriented
format including evenings and weekends.

My take: I give them six months for it to crash and burn; then Neila is back
doing infomercials for unemployment on Maine PBS. In the meantime, this could
be the move that makes JJ Jeffrey cry uncle. Roll those tape recorders at 5AM
tomorrow; that's when the stations go dark in preparation for the big move.
