Re: WMTW Broadcast Group dumps nostalgia in Portland

Well, the people who own WMTW made millions selling their cable interests.
They will have to spend a lot of money to make this endeavor a success. I
would give them a better chance of success if WMTW was a stronger TV
franchise. They can't get many people to watch their TV news, why should we
think they will be successful on radio?

Some questions come to mind:

The website says they will have ABC Radio News. ABC's Paul Harvey runs on
WPOR and I think WBAE runs ABC News. Is a change being made?

Will Bud Sawyer continue hosting the morning show on 1470 in Lewiston?

Is the George Campbell mentioned the same guy who was a Portland City
Councilor and a forner State Transportation Commissioner? If so, I see a
big conflict with him commenting on local issues. Campbell runs PA
Strategies which is an organization that helps companies get local tax
breaks, zoning changes and the like. His business regurlarly has issues
before many of the communities in the Portland area. One of his business
associates is also a candidate for Governor. Everyone has conflicts, but
Campbell is riddled with them.

Does anyone make full-time local, news/talk work in a market the size of
Portland? Even in major markets, satellite programming is used for much of
the day.

What will JJ do with WLOB AM & FM? The market can't support four talk
stations. Maybe he can pick up the nostalgia format, though Saga's WBAE-AM
1490 carries the "Musice of Your Life" format in Portland.
