Steve Allen used to do "on-the-street" bits for _The Tonight Show_, as Jay Leno does now. I think it was Allen who did the following bit: he hailed a cab and opened the door to the back seat. He then tossed in a big salami, told the driver, "LaGuardia - step on it!", and shut the door as the cabbie took off. --RC
