actually, she began her thursday evening with the "cross over" tease she does
with Kramer and McCarthy by mentioning she'd been fired. and then proceeded
to do her show with a great deal of restraint, and after reading the website
message, a Tremendous amount of restraint.
she did make it a point to mention that the syndication would continue,
even from the studios of KABC, until the "new location" was finalized/sewed
up. she gave more than an inference that a new LA locale was more than
wishful thinking.
for what it's worth, she brings a lot to the table. like any
comedian(ne), some material hits, and some misses. for her former managers
to spend their days crossing out more and more words from the Websters on
their desk and then issue her fresh guidelines each evening is a bit much.
however, i will give the management in question a slight benefit of the
doubt as they were probably concerned about her "outside" activities
interfering with her radio duties. these extras include her recent debut as
host on the Oprah network (O2) of the newly-revived gameshow "I've Got A
Secret", not to mention her other projects on film and on tv (most recently
"Diagnosis Murder") (idle thought: find out who her agent is. quick) one
would hope, though, that instead of publicly belittling and berating one's
talent that management might find a way to express exactly what it is that so
irks them.
i've only worked for one manager who acted so crassly, and not unlike ms.
miller, i miss working with the staff involved that i so greatly respect and
admire. such is life.
i know that she and her cohort, Faith, enjoyed their trip to Boston, and
on the air thursday night she received an invite from the Utah affiliate for
them to come on up. (of course, the invite also included a visit to the Bunny
Ranch (?)... a house of questionable purpose or repute.) (idle thought: why
don't we have fun places like that in Boston from which we could do some
adventurous remotes?) (idle thought: why am i stealing Larry King's idle
thought thing?)
as i've mentioned, i'm in the car each evening from 8:45 or so until 10:45
(or so) on my ride from Portland to Boston, so like most radio people, i am
hitting the buttons and do enjoy pausing for Stephanie's little Stand Up News
segment each night that opens the show. here's to hoping she sticks around
for our listening and dancing enjoyment. (give her 22 seconds, and she'll
give you a big, fat headache. :-) )
