The Raymond TV tower, at 1619' AMSL, was the world's tallest manmade
structure when it first went up around 1960. But the honor only lasted a few
months, as someone else built one reaching 1621' (I beleive in the
Carolinas.) Not much time elapsed until WHO-TV built its 2000 footer in Des
Moines. Now, 2000 footers are fairly commomplace. The world record-setter,
one outside of Warsaw, Poland, I believe went to 2600+  feet, but collapsed
due to shoddy construction some years back. (One more item to remove from
the list of the accomplishments and glories of socialism!!)
