Re: Towers!
That would be KLUV 1190 in Dallas, which operates from two sites. The day
site, between Dallas and Ft Worth, has four towers (50 kW). The night site,
east of Dallas, has 12 (5 kW). WLQV Detroit used to have 12 towers but now
has nine. That isn't even a local record, because the AM 1200 in suburban
Detroit has 10 and so does the AM 1090 there. 1090 (licensed to Livonia)
runs 250W-D from four towers and 500W-N from six completely separate towers
at the same site. There may be one or more Canadian AMs with more than 12
towers. I'm not sure of how many towers CJRN in Niagara Falls (710 kHz 10
kW-D/2.5 kW-N DA-2) uses, but it's at least nine.
Now here's one for you: Which US AM has the most feet of steel in the air?
The number of feet is just short of a mile, which is considerably more than
590 in Toronto has. Toronto isn't in the US of course, but you might think
that a station with nine 400' towers would hold the record for all of North
America. It doesn't, however.
