This shift of power in affiliate compensation has been coming for a long time.
It begs a lot of questions:

1. How many indies and/or rimshotters will emulate Granite and buy their way
into the big leagues?

2. Where will the money come from to support adequate TV news operations?

3. Will syndicators and sports teams take advantage of the situation and hike
program and rights fees paid by indies through the roof?

4. How about public TV?  Will they be exempt from the new economics of
procuring program content?

5. And will multicasting ever become financially viable in this environment?
