no, it's not that at all... but if it's what you care to think, so be it...
have you ever done an overnight shift and find you need a longer song to fill
with?? you can only rely on American Pie so many times. (Sympathy for the
Devil happens to be a recent studio addition to the category of "songs of
significant length" here in the building where it's a ninety second round
trip just to WALK to the bathroom.)
additionally, your comment is quite the opposite of ANY and EVERY listener
who calls... they don't often care if it was just played an hour ago, THEY
just turned on the radio and want to hear it now.
is it excuseable for a jock not to check back on the previous music sheets?
no. is it possible that the song was scheduled for the 23rd hour of one day,
and then, when the computer program recycled it stuck it into the 1st or 2nd
hour of the next day? yes, it is possible.
in this particular case, the tune was not computer-scheduled, but it was on a
disc that had been placed in the studio specifically for the Halloween theme
thing... if the previous announcer did not note when the tune was played, or
perhaps left the cd in the machine cued to the last track played without
passing down the info, then it was a human/operator thing...
and just in passing? what's so wrong about a disc jockey playing whatever
they want? remember the good old days when free-form WBCN had double-digit
ratings? sounds to me like the incredulity of your question stems from
buying into the research and test thing... sorry, it (research&testing)
doesn't always work. if it did, we'd all be tied for first. that, by the
way, is my personal opinion.
