As far as vocals are concerned, all smooth jazz stations utilize them, even the
successful ones. It's choosing the right titles that can be difficult to keep
the station from sounding too AC. The stations that you mentioned, along with
KTWV-Los Angeles WNUA-Chicago and WJJZ-Philadelphia have also been in the
format for quite some time, and have been able to grow their audiences long
term. WSJZ was given a year or two. WSJZ was starting to sound better. I
guess they shared too much audience with cash cow WMJX, so they figured if they
blew it up, the listeners would go to 106.7 anyway. It's too bad. I wish they
blew up 92.9 instead.
