The worst kept secret in Portland radio is now official: Dave Winsor is out
as the co-host of the WGAN Morning Show and Jim Crocker will be replacing
him. Winsor was officially notified of his dismissal after the forthcoming
change was reported in yesterday's Casco Bay Weekly. (Don't you love radio?)
Crocker will start teaming with Willie Ritch on Monday. The show will be
called "Crocker & Willie." Crocker co-hosted the morning show on WGAN for
several years until leaving to do a TV talk show on WCSH in 1995. At the
time of his departure, the station took him to court in an unsuccesful
attempt to enforce a non-compete clause in his contract.
Crocker is well known in Portland and was very popular in his earlier WGAN
run. It will be interesting to see how the audience reacts to having two
liberals hosting the show. Since WGAN went talk in 1989, the morning show
has always had a liberal and a conservative as co-hosts.
