The CRTC made the decision firm today...CIQC 600 Montreal, the corporate
successor to Marconi's XWA (Experimental Wireless Apparatus) and CFCF
(Canada's First, Canada's Finest), will be moving its position from 600 to
940 (the old CBM) on the dial, with a boost in power to 50000 watts...CKVL
850 Montreal/Verdun will also move from 850 to 690 with the same power boost.
Formats will change to all-news (although Montreal most likely cannot
support all-news 24/7...CIQC General Manager Brian Kenemy was quoted tonight
on CFCF-12's "Pulse News" as leaving room on the grid for talk shows PM and
weekends, as brokered programs are profitable for the station, as well as
Expos Baseball...He cited Boston as a market where all-news days/talk &
Bruins at night was successful)...No news on whether the stations will move
from their current building at 211 Gordon Avenue in Verdun to more palatial
quarters in the heart of downtown from whence they once came (Ste-Catherine
& McGill College until 1996)...
