The scanner hobbyists and certain radio hobbyist magazines and other
hobbyist groups did a bit of lobbying, so that listening to police
scanners and a number of other two-way communications is not
prohibited. Listening to cordless phones is under the latest version of
the law. Scanners sold in the United States have to be so designed as
not to receive cellular phone frequencies.
