Payola rules prohibit the UNDISCLOSED playing of music in exchange for money
or other condiseration.

Having disclosed that the song was being played for money, and the identity
of the person or entity involved,
WBLM is completely within the law. In this case, the flow of consideration
was not to the station, so there's an
additional layer of distance from any hint of payola.

All stations are free to accept money to play songs ... even from record
companies.
They just have to be up front about it.
