Re: WKXL(AM + FM)

Gary:

No need to feel ashamed for thinking you heard WKXL was being sold to
Fox Media instead of Vox Media. In what I believe was his first on-air
mention of the sale today, morning guy Mike Murphy said he thought it
was Fox when he first heard the news.

I stopped by the station today to drop off a couple community event
listings (honest--I printed the announcements last evening before I knew
about the sale) and picked up a little information. Several suitors
have sought 'KXL in the past year but many didn't look too good in the
finance department. Vox Media president Bruce Danziger is doing all
right for dough thanks to selling stations in Upstate NY and Vermont to
Capstar. At the moment, Vox has no radio stations but WKXL and WKXL-FM
are the first acquisitions in what's expected to be a group of about 16
small market stations. I am told Mr. Danziger claims he does not know
everything about radio but knows enough to hire somebody who does.

Although all current WKXL employees have been told they can have jobs
with the new owner, GM Dick Osborne will likely depart soon as Vox is
bringing in its own GM. Another of the principal partners is saying he
probably won't stick around long.

Music will return to WKXL-FM--haven't heard a hint as to the format--but
I expect some sort of automation will be involved. Vox is talking about
buying quite a bit of digital equipment.
