I find the opposite to be true regarding Browne. WDRC (AM) in
Hartford stops the nostalgia format to run Browne each evening and
listening to it reminds me just how much of a non-stop, one-note,
loud-mouth, hypocritical insult slob Schlessinger is. Browne -- and I am
not making this up -- actually lets her callers say what they called to
say, acts sympathetic and helpful, and gives them possibly useful advice.
The difference is extremely noticeable. I recommend checking out that show,
as it puts Schlessinger in context -- that is, makes her seem 100 times
worse than she already seems. Browne even runs bumpers making
not-very-subtle comparisons to Schlessinger. One of them says something
like, "good sense, not insults, from America's original personal-advice
talk show host."
