Yes, I believe it was the same rule. The Herald-Traveler owned WHDH-TV
5 and WHDH AM (850) and FM
(94.5) and wound up selling the TV station, since
there was some sort of FCC or governmental regulation
about cross-ownership. (WCVB went on in June of 
1972, I believe.)

There are some loopholes to this rule, if the rule
still exists...like when the Boston Phoenix bought
(then-) WLYN-FM 101.7 (now WFNX)-- perhaps the
argument was that the Phoenix was a weekly newspaper,
and not as much of a "player" in the local media
as the Herald or Globe.
