It's called modern a/c. 

And how are you determining what constitutes a "hit song"? 
Is it a hit if it tests in call out? 
Is it a hit if soundscan shows it to be selling in the metro? 
Is it a hit if it moves up on any one of the dozen or so charts? 
And what format are you looking in to see if it's a hot or not? Modern A/C?
Hot A/C? CHR? Alternative?
