Voice-tracking automation CAN sound great--even "live"........
............Providing that you have a VERY CREATIVE INDIVIDUAL
in charge of it!
A very creative individual who knows what the voice-tracked system
can do could record (onto hard-drive) sweepers/liners/bits and when
it comes out, it can come out sounding "live"!
This way, you could have someone spending a few hours a day recording
voice-tracks onto a hard-drive and it seems like that person is
always there at the station.
Granted, the weather report will be a problem since you can't give
the current temperature. But a creative enough person will have a
good idea of what time of the day/night the voice-tracked announcement
is going to be played, so he/she can say "It's 7:15" or "quarter
to 5" and add the city's station/area of license. Sure beats that
"It's eighteen past" heard on almost every music station outside
of the top 60 to 80 radio markets.
