I remember McDermott. I think he got into quite bit of hot water during the
payola scandals. When I arrived in Boston in the summer of 1956, WHIL had
some dynamite air talent. The morning guy, Bob Walsh, did a million voices
and was very clever. When Jess Cain took over mornings on WHDH, Walsh was a
worthy competitor, although very few people knew about WHIL. Later in the
day came Jim Aylward, later of WEEI and Channel 5. I thought he was very
good too.
