Hey Scott: You missed one. Friday's FCC actions indicate that the FCC has
cancelled the license and deleted the calls (WWJY?) of the AM 1510 in New
London CT. The New London station was dark and had applied to change its
operation to daytime only. Potentially, the deletion appears to make way for
WNRB changing its non-critical hours daytime operation to ND (unless ND
operation would create prohibited overlap with WPUT Brewster NY). WNRB must
continue to use its existing day pattern during critical hours (the two
hours after local sunrise and before local sunset) to protect WLAC Nashville
from daytime-skywave interference. A shift to ND would lose WNRB some midday
coverage in the Merrimack Valley and would somewhat reduce the signal
strength in downtown Boston, but would considerably improve the signal
southwest of Boston, albeit not in AM or PM drive time most of the year.
Perhaps a more important benefit would be the prevention of any other
station appearing on 1510 anywhere in southern New England (in case anyone
were foolish enough to want to construct another complex DA--the New London
station used six towers at night and three towers by day, with a total of
eight towers in its two arrays--the most towers of any station in New
England). I have to wonder whether One-on-One paid anything to the New
London station to go dark. I suspect that switching to ND days would
somewhat increase WNRB's value.
