An 'ERS "distant cousin" :)

Hi Barry:
I use the term "distant cousin", figuratively of course :) !
WERS really has had some great oldies programming over the years.
"The Jukebox Saturday Night" was a staple on 88.9 on my radio for over
a year (1974). At that time, it competed with "Wolfman Jack" on the
old WROR (98.5) for listeners. When 'ERS moved to the Pru in May of
1974, complete with a new stereo transmitter...the suburbs finally got
a loud and respectable 895 watt signal. The old 18,000 watt
transmitter site was so bad, it was "boxed-in" between buildings on
all sides, twice the height of the antenna. Although the signal had a
hard time getting out of Boston, that old Beacon Street signal DID get
into everyone's razors, toaster ovens and hi-fi amplifiers (without
the need of an FM tuner !). Definitely would NOT pass today's
stricter ANSI radiation standards, by any means !!
Though non-comm's were not rated at the time, WERS regularly DID
get some listeners who normally DIDN'T go below 92 MHz. That I am
sure.
Did you have anything to do with the Sunday night oldies show on
'ERS in 1980 or '81 which gave out the request line as COpley 7-7821 ?
Was it "The Goldrush" ?
I do believe I met you at the newly christened WZLX "Classic
Hits, 100.7" in October, 1985 when I got 4 Classic Hits Albums after
trying to identify the 10 song montage of Classic Hits bits. I got
all but ONE.... "Atlantis" by Donovan. BURRRRRRR !! But you were
happy to give me a tour of the facility in the new Hancock Tower.
Mike Finnegan (now of WODS) was the man on the air and invited me in
the booth for a minute. I still have the albums with "Classic Hits,
100.7" stickers on them.
Great show you've got on Sundays. Best wishes.
