The public is starting to do just that.  I know several people who have the 10
disc CD changers installed in their cars.  These people NEVER listen to
radio--except for possibly Stern and, if they hit a traffic jam WBZ--then
they're gone.  

The biggest complaints I hear from people are "you play the same songs over
and over"  and this is not just for CHR either--the rock and AC stations are
included.   The other big one is "too many commercials"  So what do all the
mega companies do?  Add to the spotload.  One station I track for
Mediabase/Premiere here in the NERW area is running about 16 to 18 minutes of
commercial time per hour--and they're a music-intensive CHR!!  I can't wait to
see what happens when DBS is rolled out in the next couple of years with 50
commercial free music channels for 10 bucks a month.
