Once upon the 1940s, this started as WMMW-FM in Meriden (1947).
around the same time as WMMW (AM) started in Meriden as a 1 kW daytimer.
But the FM has been legally IDed as Hartford-Meriden at least since the mid
or late 1960s, if I recall correctly. I don't know if it ever was IDed as
Meriden-Hartford. I have a 1958 station list showing it still as WMMW-FM,
Meriden. The 1972 Broadcasting yearbook lists WKSS under a separate
location heading after "Hartford," as "Hartford-Meriden." I believe this
subject has been discussed on this group before, and perhaps someone with
more surviving brain cells than me can remember better.
There once were main studio rules, too, that might have required them
to keep a studio in Meriden. But the 1972 book doesn't list one, just their
Hartford location. And since the signal goes from the studio in Hartford to
their transmitter in Meriden (the antenna farm on West Peak), well, hell,
it is Hartford-Meriden, now, isn't it?
