WKXL back on air

WKXL Concord NH is back on 1450 tonight. Last night and this morning
that frequency was silent (as silent as a graveyard can be, anyway)
while regular programming continued on 102.3. Some sort of alignment
problem at the base of the AM tower has been causing the main Harris
xmtr to shut itself down lately, and the Gates backup (also 1 kw--and
less sensitive to shorts at the tower) was pulled into service for
awhile until it stopped working yesterday. They're making do with the
Harris until a special alignment device can be brought in...it could be
another month before the work is done because of the unusually soggy
conditions at the tower base.
Elsewhere in town, it sounded like WEVO (New Hampshire Public Radio on
89.1) was having the hiccups early this morning. The signal was
interrupted several times each minute (NOT in synch with the lightning
activity going on at the time) and I found WEVO splattered all over the
dial of my bedside radio. Whatever was happening, it was under control
by 6:15am or so.
