Leykis.
Howie & Vickie Jones were hired to replace Gene Burns first, then Leykis came
into play. I know that Leykis used to do stuff on AOL, with a posting board
and chat rooms with his name to accompany his show, but he was getting flashed
so often about his wife beating that he gave up AOL for the more control
atmosphere of IDT. He still denies that the whole thing happened, typical of a
domestic abuser, but anyone can go to the Boston Globe on micro-film and get
the article and see that Leykis pled guilty to the lesser, misd charge. I know
that both VB and Kevin Straley were at the Christmas party and sometimes
Howie, when he is talking of "Tubby Tom" as the Inside Track chicks nicknamed
him, will drag them on the air, much to their displeasure, to relive the
event. When Leykis was on the air here against Limboob he did a great show, so
much better than the nonsense he is doing now. He did numerous shows on
fighting NAFTA, as did Jerry Williams, computers, economics, empowerment
issues; he would cover important topics and hammer them into the ground. After
Leykis saw these "You're Soaking In It" stickers around he called out to ask
if anyone knew what they were and then had on the "Buffalo Gals," a couple of
female grafitti artists who were trying to keep the T from putting in those
"Commuter Vision" television sets all over the place. That was a great show.
The only thing I didn't like about him was he refused to question Clinton on
anything and he called Jerry Brown a "nut" which also bothered me but that was
a small price to pay for listening to what was always an informative AND
entertaining four hours.

<< Right, that was what happened-- a Crane hire who
would've been canned under Malone. And Malone
had made numerous appearances on Jerry's
show while he was running for office... Regarding
Tom Leykis (who I met at a shopping mall in Danvers,
and he seemed like a nice guy--this was before the
Xmas party story came out), I wasn't aware that
he may have directly or indirectly led to the firing of
Howie. I just thought that they needed someone to
replace Gene Burns, and hired Leykis, while Howie
may have been fired for a different reason. Maybe
he _was_ fired for a different reason, but the fact
that Leykis was available for hire may have helped.
I do know that numerous times Howie has made fun
of Leykis and the Christmas incident, calling Tom
fat and saying that he "mistook his wife for a
Duraflame log" (as the story goes that Tom had
tried to shove his wife, Susan Drew Leykis, into
the fireplace.)
What a tangled web we weave: years later, Leykis
would call in to defend himself on the air at WFNX,
with a DJ who has since joined WRKO...Tai.
I will say that I liked Tom's show (and like Howie's
show, although maybe these incidents don't
make them seem like pillars of the community) .. >>
