Re: Drake "killed" Good Guys Radio

During at least one rating period at WMEX, Arnie had a 40 share. Yes,
forty! And that was during prime time TV show hours! You see, Arnie had a
real, non-put-on, personality. He had a slight Boston accent, no deep,
resonant voice. New Englanders like real, no put-on people. You might say
that some jocks have personality; the others have voices. Voices are good
for automation. Personalities bring in ratings...all the time. Ask Roy
Leonard at WGN, formerly at WNAC (WRKO). He was a personality then, and
remains the same today. That's why he remains in major market stations for
decades. :) shel

Before those deep-throated guys flame me, I love a deep voice. One of my
friends is the voice for New York's Eyewitness News for channel 7. But
Arnie is he one who brought Top 40 as it was to New England. WMEX discovered
him on then-WBOS-AM 1600. He made more money than ANY jock at WMEX...and
his show wasn't even close to morning drive!

Maybe that's why he's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame... (as opposed to
the newsgroup Hall of Flame) lol - shel
