Last night on WMTW-TV, one of the lead stories was about an automobile
emission testing program that is under consideration in the Maine Legislature.
A few years ago the State adopted an emission testing program that was very
controversial and ended up being repealed after a couple of months.  The story
last night began with the line "Automobile emissions.  You thought they were
gone for good? Not if a bill not before the Legislature become law."  During
the whole story the reporter refered to "automobile emissions" and left out
the word "testing."  Most people would still being able to understand the
story because of the pictures of cars being tested, but if you read the
script, the story would have been incomprehensible.
