RE:WBZ Stereo

WBZ's stereo signal is noisy at times. It is DEFINITELY NOT the
problem of the transmitter site in Hull. Rather, the STL path is
noisy due to the long straight path they use to get there. Apparently,
according to some sources, 'BZ uses a composite STL to get the job
done...not a pair of mono STL links. When you use a composite feed
you are in essence doing FM stereo and need to demodulate it into
its' left and right components. It used to be that WBZ used phone
lines that went through 19 Central Offices to get to Hull. 'BZ's
STL path goes through Downtown Boston. Lotsa buildings there.
