While I never did college radio, I had the best method of instruction, an
owner who was willing to train some high school kid to go on the air. Learning
to go on air back in '81 was truly an experience. One ripped AP to read, but,
better yet, had to call the area police & fire departments and try to convert
the nights logs into an intelligent news story for the 6am news! That and music
too. Man, we were busy, you know how hard it is to try to make news calls
between 3 minute songs?
The morning guy used to BE the radio station. I rode my bycicle to the station
(just down the street), turned on the transmitter, and did a 6 hour morning show, 6am to
12 noon. Try to find THAT in any small market station today!
