I was working in Arkansas in the late '70s and heard a lot of Memphis
radio. A soft AC station there actually changed its call to WQUD and
gave a big on-air push to Quad, telling listeners between songs how
great the station sounds with four speakers. They gave up within a year.

If I recall correctly, sales of the equipment never took off.
