VHF 2-6 was removed from TV during the analog shutdown. All of the classic analog numbers were released then… leaving plenty of room for new players, but none other than NBC Boston showed up, so they could now compact the bandwidth/

VHF isn't useful for mobile broadband, but UHF is. So it's UHF spectrum
being removed from broadcast use, not VHF.
