All Access reporting moments ago that legendary Los Angeles radio
personality Charlie Tuna (real name Art Ferguson) passed away today at the
age of 71. He was one of the legendary KHJ "Boss Jocks" as well as working
at and programming several other stations in the Los Angeles market. He also
hosted several syndicated radio shows over the years and at the time of his
death was still heard on several stations in small and medium markets daily
via his own radio syndication business. The All Access report says Charlie
worked at WMEX in 1967, leaving there to take the 9 to Noon slot at KHJ on
Thanksgiving Day 1967. His last radio job on a Los Angeles station was
weekends at KRTH until last August, when CBS started downsizing staff in
L.A. and other markets, he left to concentrate on his syndication biz.
