There was a (92.1? I forget) pirate a couple years ago that was stepping
on WUMB. The FCC was persuaded to visit the pirate, who complied
immediately with their order to shut down. The next day, a WUMB staffer
observed that the FM antenna on the pirate's roof had been removed.

A week later, a colleague called from Quincy to report what sounded very
much like the same pirate, back on the air on the same frequency from a
different location.

A couple years back there was a pirate in Brockton causing headaches to
stations at the high end of the reserved band. The FCC was unable to find
the pirate's sttudio, but they confiscated the transmitter, anntenna, and
a Barix box the pirate had been using as an STL. Needless to say, that
pirate simply popped back on the air from elsewhere.

I have long argued that there ought to be a state law penalizing
*advertisers* on pirate stations. When it's no longer profitable, the
pirates will go away.
