Yes they did.  I had the opportunity to meet Carl deSuze when he did one of
his travelogues at my high school back in the 60s and asked him about that.
He said the rationale was to give the impression of the airstaff as being
one group of people who hung out together as opposed to individuals who did
their shift & went home.

They seem to have phased that out when they dropped the top 40 format in the
late 60s.
