This makes me wonder how far afield the association of "Hub" with Boston goes. Here in Connecticut, I neither hear nor see it. If Boston is referred to by nickname at all, the nickname used is "Beantown," which, of course, is never used by Bostonians or the Boston media. Down South, where I spent three years a few decades back, "Beantown" was apparently the only nickname they knew.
Curious, though, that CBS Radio, which must have known of the association when it branded 98.5 that way, now is using it to describe general sports programming. Although who knows, WBZ-FM's name might have been thought up by someone in New York who only knows Boston as Beantown.
