Sometimes it's not a matter of money (although it usually is) - some people just need to stay on the air in any capacity possible for ego reasons. When I was working at WSRO in the late 90s and management flipped it to talk we got many, many tapes from once promenent Boston TV personalities who knew they weren't going to get the big bucks if they got the gig.
