Indeed they weren't.  What they won't admit today is that WBCN started in 1958 as a 
classical music station.  They were the flagship for a chain of stations called the "Concert 
Network," which included WXCN Providence, WHCH Hartford, and WNCN New York.  They 
didn't shift to progressive rock until around 1969.
