Reminds me of the female newscaster WTAG hired about 15 years ago.  She didn't last long there, and I'm sure one of the reasons was her steadfast refusal to learn the local pronunciations.  So, listeners were regularly treated to such nuggets as "Lie-ces-ter," "Leo-mins-ter" and "Gar-den-er."  At least she got Worcester right, but that was about it.
