The "I's" Have It

Is there a campaign afoot to insert the letter "i"
into virtually every word spoken on-air?  Or is
Vanna White just having a half-price sale on "i's?"

In the last 3 days, I have heard bothe agency commercials 
and live announcers on WBZ emote the following:

OGG-iss       (August)
PA-piss       (pappas)
miss-KEY-toes (mosquitos)
NEW-tin       (Newton)
CAN-tin       (Canton)

and now (drum roll sfx, please)

the "il-LIM-piks"  (Olympics) (BZ Newsman)
